Early in the morning at 5:30 AM on December 1, Warragul Fire Brigade members woke to an alert of a possum trapped in Warragul resident’s laundry. Warragul pumper with a crew of five, turned out to investigate.
Upon arrival, the crew found a very distressed resident with an even more distressed possum cowering in the corner of the laundry.
With the aid of protective gear and a fire blanket, members were able to catch the fury critter, but not without injuries. One member received a superficial cut to the finger from a bite which was treated at West Gippsland Hospital after the call.
Once the possum had been caught, it was taken outside to be released. However, upon its release, it decided that it liked the house better than the great outdoors, climbed up a tree next to the house and headed back into the roof.
RSPCA and Wildlife Victoria were then called to attend to the possum and any young that could have possibly been living in the roof.
