Gas leak forces evacuation in Warragul

At 5:47pm on Friday 23rd September, Warragul Fire Brigade was paged to a report of a possible gas leak in Eade Avenue, Warragul. Whilst en-route, crews were updated with further information that the leak had possibly come from an LPG cylinder attached to a caravan.

On arrival it was determined that the smell was Natural Gas, not LPG, and a breached main or service line was suspected. A 150 metre exclusion zone was established, and residents within that area were evacuated.

Fire fighters wearing Breathing Apparatus used a Flammable Gas Detector to search for the source of the leak. Crews remained on scene with the exclusion zone in effect with the assistance of Victoria Police.

Representatives from the gas supply company, Comdain, located the leaking 450kpa gas main and clamped it. Fire fighters assisted in resettling affected residents back into their homes.

The incident was declared safe at 7.56pm, 2 hours after the initial call.
